Multiple leases - Occupancy issues for business rates billing.

July 12, 2018

Business Rate Advisors Ltd. – We are here to help you.

Last week we took on a case where our client had multiple leases.

The problem: They occupied 3 floors via a limited company. Each floor had its own rateable value. The client also had another occupancy with a low rateable value. (That sounds like a math test so far). When adding up the rateable value on the 3 floor premises, it comes to less than £12000, which means no business rates are payable. Yet the Council refused to apply small business rate relief. This may be because of the other office, but that was in a personal name, so this does not count.

What we did to help: We contacted a council on behalf of our client, challenged it, submitted official complaint and our client received the small business rate relief (SBRR) plus the amount of money back that the council took of them when they should not have.

The SBRR (Small Business Rates Relief) costs the council nothing.

So don’t delay. Get in touch with us and we will get you your entitlement of SBRR or resolve any problems you have with your business rates.
