1 in 6 businesses go to court over unpaid business rates.

July 24, 2018

According to the one of the consultancy companies over 15% of firms liable for business rates had been taken to court due to non-payment.

Almost 200,000 businesses were taken to court only last year.

We could add to it a system of downward transitional relief, which is extremely unfair system, where many businesses paid excessively high bills in locations where local economies were less successful than expected and values had fallen.

That clearly shows how the companies are struggling with high business rates, and that the system is ‘sorting it out’ taking firms to court.

It is a system that issues unreal business rate demands to small businesses which cannot afford it.

The business rate situation is bad. Is that the only way to deal with it? Fees? Bailiffs? Court?
